Om Nom Nom?

One of my acquaintances (who was almost like a sister to me in the past) came over to spend a night or two at my place. While we were hanging out, I chanced upon a conversation she had with her father over the phone.

She spoke to him in such saccharine tones, that you could almost kiss her for it. ‘I love you Daddy’, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll take care’, and utter sweetness along those lines.

When she finally shuts the phone, she bitterly mutters ‘old man’- to my shock.

It just so happens that most children have been exceedingly naughty and nasty at some point of their lives towards their parents. You reject the Brussels sprouts, you keep secrets from them, you don’t allow them to add you on Facebook.

But this? This was a whole new level of vulgarity that I had to witness. If she could be like this to her father, I could darn well expect a ‘fat caboose’ or a ‘sanctimonious troglodyte’ uttered behind my back.

You weren’t born this disgusting. You had one face the last time I knew you…

And you remind me of every other human I’ve come across.

‘No frivolity will they hear therein, nor any mischief,-

Only the saying, ‘’Peace! Peace’’

(From Allaah’s Verses in the Qur’an about Paradise for those who are closest to Him. Surah Al Waqiah, Verses 25-26).
