Katzung for the win

May 12, 2011 at 8:44 am (Uncategorized)

According to Bertram Katzung’s Basic and Clinical Pharmacology, 10th edition, Mr. Katzung remarks that

Protamine is a mixture of six major and some minor compounds of similar structure isolated from the sperm of rainbow trout.

And the scientist who made this absolutely normal and commonplace discovery meticulously (although in this age, ‘tritely’ would suffice as a more suitable figure of speech) arrived at the conclusion that this compound should be added to insulin to make it intermediate or long-acting.

Someone please tell me this; rainbow trout’s sperm+insulin= what, and more urgently HOW the heck?

I'll be --- if this guy's sperm ever managed to enter the remotest recesses of my brain during my 20-year old existence O_O
